EU Relaxes 2035 Auto Emission Rules, 90% Target Allows Fuel-Related Models
Recently, the European Commission has rolled out a package of measures for the automotive industry, adjusting the original 2035 "ban on fuel-powered cars" by lowering the new car emission reduction target from 100% zero emissions to 90%. This change enables plug-in hybrid vehicles, extended-range electric vehicles, mild hybrid vehicles, and traditional internal combustion engine models to continue being sold in the EU market.

The adjustment optimizes the rules adopted in 2023. By 2035, affordable small electric vehicles produced locally in the EU by automakers will be eligible for "super credits." Meanwhile, carbon emission standards for heavy-duty vehicles will be revised, and corporate fleet emission reduction targets will be set for member states to accelerate the popularization of low-emission vehicles.
