NIO Breaks Ground on New Battery R&D Base in Jiading; Construction Kicks Off H2 2026
NIO advances its next-generation power battery R&D layout with a dedicated battery research base set to launch construction in Shanghai’s Jiading District in the second half of 2026. Once completed, the facility will house 31 lithium battery testing labs, one lithium-ion cell pilot production line and one battery pack assembly line, covering the full R&D chain from cell development and trial manufacturing to battery pack assembly and validation. This investment strengthens NIO’s self-developed three-core electric technology ecosystem.

The technical rollout aligns with strong market performance. On July 1, NIO released June delivery data: total brand deliveries hit 40,597 units, a new monthly high for 2026 and a 62.9% year-on-year rise. Breakdown: core NIO brand at 21,908 units (+50.1% YoY), L60 brand at 11,743 units (+83.5% YoY), and Firefly at 6,946 units (+76.7% YoY). All three brands posted double-digit growth, laying a solid market foundation for upcoming technology deployment and product upgrades.
