At the 2026 Busan International Mobility Show, BYD premiered the Sealion 6 DM-i, its first hybrid model for the South Korean market, officially entering the local hybrid segment. This year marks the 10th anniversary of BYD’s South Korean subsidiary, making the hybrid launch a meaningful milestone in its decade-long local presence. Previously focused primarily on battery electric vehicles in South Korea, BYD will now have a more complete new energy product lineup with the hybrid addition.

BYD Launches Sealion 6 DM-i in South Korea’s Hybrid Market

BYD has deep roots in hybrid technology: it launched the world’s first mass-produced plug-in hybrid back in 2008. After years of development, its DM-i technology has been thoroughly validated by over 8 million cumulative sales and more than 30 billion kilometers of total driving distance, earning a strong reputation for reliability and fuel efficiency. As a model embodying this technical heritage, the Sealion 6 DM-i will complement BYD’s existing pure electric lineup in South Korea, offering consumers more eco-friendly mobility choices and strengthening the brand’s local competitiveness.
