ZF Launches Active Chassis Noise Reduction Function to Reduce Tire Noise
Recently, ZF has launched a new "active noise reduction" function that can reduce tire noise at the source without the need for additional noise reduction hardware in the vehicle. This pure software function specifically designed for the chassis can significantly reduce annoying tire noise inside the car. In the future, ZF plans to extend this function to other chassis actuator products. The software solution is based on ZF's Smart Chassis Sensor, which features a built-in acceleration sensor to accurately monitor vibrations transmitted from the tires to the vehicle body through the chassis.

A dedicated algorithm analyzes the vibration data and identifies the characteristic acoustic pattern of tire cavity noise (typically around 200 Hz). After analysis, the software generates a reverse cancellation signal, which is output through the valve of the CDC® semi-active continuous damping control shock absorber system via ZF's vehicle motion control software cubiX. This function utilizes the tiny movements of the shock absorbers to target and reduce noise interference without affecting actual damping performance.
