Recently, Mercedes-Benz officially released a set of camouflaged prototype images of the G63 convertible. The new model will go on sale in 2028 and is expected to be powered by a 4.0T V8 engine, maintaining its signature strong off-road performance. Its convertible design is rather distinctive: instead of a traditional full convertible layout, it adopts a body profile similar to the Landaulet version, with a fixed metal roof for the front row and a foldable soft top exclusively for the rear seats. When retracted, it stacks in layers under the rear spare tire, keeping the rear profile neat and tidy.

According to the plan, the Mercedes-Benz G63 convertible will enter production at Mercedes’ Graz plant in Austria in the third quarter of 2027, retaining the classic boxy silhouette that defines the G-Class lineage. Power comes from a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 mild-hybrid engine, with a maximum output most likely remaining at 577 horsepower, striking a balance between emission regulations and performance output. For Mercedes-Benz, this model serves more as a personalized option for high-end enthusiasts, further elevating the premium image of the G-Class family.
