Geely Auto and Ford Motor Company have finalized a strategic cooperation agreement to form a joint venture based at Ford’s Valencia manufacturing plant in Spain, utilizing shared production capacity to develop new energy vehicles under both Geely and Ford brands for the European market. Pending regulatory approvals, the joint venture will commence operations in the first half of 2027, with its first all-new model scheduled for production launch in 2028. The partnership delivers mutual benefits: it accelerates Geely’s localized European expansion strategy while optimizing underutilized production capacity at Ford’s Spanish facility.

Under the production plan, Geely will manufacture two new energy vehicle models at the Valencia plant, with the first unit slated to roll off the assembly line in 2028 to drive overseas sales growth. Geely recorded overseas sales of 474,000 vehicles in H1 2026, representing a 158% year-on-year increase and ranking it among the fastest-growing Chinese automakers in international markets. The joint venture with Ford marks a critical shift for Geely from pure vehicle export to localized manufacturing, enabling deeper market penetration across Europe.
