On July 28, BYD Japan officially unveiled its new compact electric microcar, the RACCOON, with a pre-tax starting price of 2.145 million Japanese yen, equivalent to approximately 88,700 RMB. Fully engineered to comply with Japan’s Kei car regulatory standards, the vehicle adopts a boxy silhouette paired with power-sliding rear doors, maximizing interior space efficiency and ease of entry and exit despite its compact footprint. Measuring 3,395 mm × 1,475 mm × 1,800 mm, its compact Kei car dimensions deliver exceptional maneuverability on Japan’s narrow urban streets and in cramped parking bays.

The model comes generously equipped as standard, featuring seat heating, steering wheel heating, L2-level advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), vehicle-to-load (V2L) external power discharge and six airbags. Premium optional equipment includes foot-sensor activated power sliding rear doors, a 10.1-inch central touchscreen, synthetic leather upholstery and six-way power-adjustable driver’s seat. Two battery configurations are offered: the entry-level variant houses a 22.4 kWh battery pack delivering a WLTC range of 210 km, while the high-spec version carries a 35.84 kWh battery with a 320 km WLTC range. A maximum DC fast-charging output of 50 kW fully meets daily urban commuting requirements.
