SAIC Volkswagen announced on July 20 that the ID. ERA 5S has officially rolled off the production line. As the second model in the ID. ERA lineup, it is the first Volkswagen sedan globally equipped with urban Navigation on Autopilot (NOA) capability, featuring the "Xingyun Zhixing" high-level driver assistance system and "Yunqi Zhicang" smart cockpit. It is scheduled to go on sale in the third quarter of this year.

The sedan features a dynamic fastback design, measuring 4836mm long, 1880mm wide and 1505mm tall with a 2766mm wheelbase. Its cabin follows the ID. ERA family’s new design language with a wraparound layout for an immersive, tech-focused driving atmosphere. Power comes from a 1.5T plug-in hybrid system, delivering a combined range of up to 2000 km and a fuel consumption of just 2.82L per 100km in battery-depleted mode. It is clear Volkswagen is targeting two core user pain points – daily urban intelligent driving and range anxiety – to gain more share in the mid-size new energy sedan market.
